After a full three months, the kitchen is done! And we could not be happier about how it has turned out! We were planning on doing the remodel this year sometime, but we started sooner than we expected due to a huge leak in our kitchen sink drain! So after the homeowners insurance decided that we would end up tearing out our sink and cabinets on that side of the kitchen, as well as ripping up our floors to get rid of all the water damage, we decided what better time than this to do the full remodel. And by full I mean that we did not leave one thing unpainted, uncovered, or replaced in the whole kitchen, except for these little knobs on the cutting boards. We thought we should probably leave something untouched!
Now don't worry, I have before and after pictures so we can look back and remember how......orange...the kitchen used to be! This picture was taken when we found out that we had to remove our cabinets, but the point of this picture is to show our half painted wall, that took us about 2 years to decide to finish!
And I am so glad we finally did! Also notice how much better the new floor looks! Brandon and I were able to work off our homeowners deductible by doing the floors ourselves, and I have to say we did a good job!
I didn't have a good before picture of this view of the kitchen, Brandon tends to start tearing things apart before I have the chance to get a camera out, but you still have a pretty good idea of how things looked!
I had wanted white cabinets since the day we moved in, and after we had our insurance claim finished up, I finally talked Brandon into painting them for me! I would definitely not recommend doing it yourself, we saved a lot of money, but it is a serious pain. I don't think I could ever talk Brandon into doing it again, even though we both love how it turned out! I also had Brandon build the compartments above the cabinets, which he also was not happy about, but make such a huge difference! We also replaced some of the can lights with the pendent lights, which also made a huge difference in the feel of our kitchen.
We did not have to replace any of the appliances during the remodel, since we replaced every single one of them when we first moved in, but here you can see the original fridge, cooktop, and double ovens, as well as our lovely kidney bean shaped island.
We decided to take out our little cubbies above the computer here so that we could fit our computer in there easier, and we also brought the backsplash over to this side of the kitchen. We still have the wall above the cabinets to texture and paint, but that wall goes into the hallway, so when we are ready to do the hallway we will start that wall.
This picture shows the old backsplash, old sink, and all our dirty dishes :)
This one shows our patio door, the old wall before we painted it, and some of the lighting before we changed it.
It was a ton of work, and time, but we are so pleased with how it turned out! Now for a little bit of a break before the next project!
