When we moved into our house, exactly 4 years ago, there was absolutely nothing in our backyard, not even a full fence. We have basically been working on the backyard since then, and in 4 years we have gotten a lot done. We built a fence, a dog kennel, a chicken coop, a pergola, put in a sprinkler system, a lawn, trees, and as of this last summer {yes it took us from June until October!} a patio! I finally feel like our backyard is presentable now that we don't have a huge chunk of dirt right outside the door!
Here are some pics from when we first moved in.
Our original plan for the patio was to use flagstone, but we soon found out that would be quite expensive! Then our neighbors behind us had their driveway replaced this spring, and we thought maybe we could use the chunks of concrete instead or flagstone. So we collected as much concrete as we thought we would need, and then some, and then some more, and started laying it down. It was HARD work! I did a little, but Brandon definitely did most of it. This is what it looked like once we had it all laid out.
Then we stained it and filled in the gaps with gravel and sand, which was by far the easiest part of this whole thing!
And the finished product!
We LOVE it! We aren't totally finished yet, we have to let the sand settle, then put more in it, and then seal the sand to keep it in there, but we are still so happy with it {and so happy the hard stuff is done}!
