We had our second Easter here at the ThunderBeast Ranch, and it was great! Since celebrations tend to last at least a whole week in our family, our Easter surprises and get togethers started about 2 weeks ago. Now, for most kids, only the Easter Bunny comes at Easter, but for ours, Batman makes some random appearances throughout the year, and he happened to come this Easter to bring the kids a special surprise.
BUNNIES! When Paxton saw them, he shouted "I've always wanted some bunnies!" Colton was also instantly in love with them, and is constantly asking to hold/maul them.
The naming of the rabbits took quite some time since all Paxton's favorite names are already in use by the chickens {the Avengers}. Somehow we ended up with the names Mr. Raptor and Ana.
The Friday and Saturday before Easter we took a short trip to Burley to see Brandon's parents. There we played with cousins, visited late into the night, and colored eggs. Sadly, I forgot the camera and we have no pictures of the annual egg coloring!
On Easter Sunday, we were back home and all of my family came over for an Easter Feast. We had an Easter egg hunt in the backyard for the kids.
One day I hope to be able to get a picture of everyone looking at the camera, and maybe even smiling :)
The whole two weeks that we had been doing Easter activities, I would talk to the boys {mostly Paxton} about the true reason we celebrate Easter. Before the Easter egg hunt, Paxton was asked why we really celebrate Easter. My brother wrote a letter that expounds on Paxton's answer, and which I think is a great reminder of the true reason we have Easter.
Here is the shortened version :)
"Our nephew, Paxton, who is four, explained to us all that Easter was
not just about bunnies and eggs, but that it was the day Jesus was “recognized.” He’s a funny kid. And, he is not
wrong.
Mary Magdalene went to the tomb that first Easter morning...she did not expect Jesus to have risen, and yet, even though He was gone, she wished to be
where He was.
May you and I follow Mary in striving to be where Jesus is, especially when He seems to have gone from us.
May we strive to be in a place where our names, too, might pass His holy lips, and that we can feel the love and
peace that comes only from being with Him.
Mary’s lesson is that every day can be Easter.
We should strive to be of a mindset and in a position that we can always recognize Him."
HAPPY EASTER!
